What To Expect From Our Worship Services |
| Maybe you have thought about visiting
us. You have heard of the "church of Christ" or perhaps you have
a friend who invited you to come and worship with us. You've thought
about it, but you really don't know what to expect. So you hesitate.
|
| |
|
|
What you should experience: |
|
| Courtesy And
Kindness |
Not only do we welcome visitors, but we
appreciate them greatly. Such people who show an interest in spiritual
things encourage us. You won't find any special pews for prominent
visitors while the back row remains reserved for all others (James
2:1-9). We try to treat all people with respect and kindness.
We won't ask you to participate in anything that might draw attention or
embarrass you. You are welcome to simply observe if you wish. |
| |
|
| Order And Reverence |
| Worship will be spirited and lively, but
not wild and out of control. The Lord expects "all things be done
properly and according to order." (1 Corinthians 14:40). We
invite you to ask questions about anything you observe. If we cannot
show you from the Bible why we do such things, we ask you to simply
ignore us. God's word must be the final rule for our spiritual conduct.
If we do not have a "thus says the Lord" for everything we do,
then we should not do it! We actually encourage you to test everything
you see and hear while visiting, "Beloved, stop believing [or,
trusting] every spirit, but be testing the spirits to see if they are
from God..." (1 John 4:1). |

|
Our Manner of Worship:
|
|
|
Singing |
| Everyone will lift up their voices to
sing praises to God "speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing and making melody in the heart of you to the
Lord" (Ephesians 5:19). You will
not find worshippers clapping their hands, snapping their
fingers, dancing and stomping their feet during our song services. Also,
you will
not find any form of mechanical instruments, but will find
Christian men leading in congregational singing in our
worship services. |
| |
|
|
Praying & Scripture Reading |
| You will observe one man leading the
congregation quietly and reverently in prayer "Therefore, I want men
to be praying in every place, lifting up holy hands [or, Holy
Character], without wrath and dissension [or, doubting]." (1
Timothy 2:8). You will find only Christian men
publicly leading prayers or leading the scripture reading during our
worship service |
| |
|
|
Communion |
| Every Sunday morning brothers and
sisters in Christ will observe the Lord's Supper "in remembrance of
Me." (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29). You will
find only Christian men leading public prayers around
the communion table in our worship services. |
| |
|
|
Giving |
| We will also give "as we may prosper"
that the Lord's work can continue in this area (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
The Lord's work is done with the free-will offerings of His children (2
Corinthians 9:6-9). You will not find rummage
sales, bake sales, yard sales, bingo or the like to raise money. |
| |
|
|
Sermon Message |
| You will observe one man proclaiming a
message of the gospel of Jesus the Christ from the Holy Bible. "For I
am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to
salvation to everyone believing" (Romans 1:16). You will find
a Christian man preaching the Gospel of Christ from the
pulpit in our worship services. |
| |
|
| Additionally |
|
| We want you to feel
comfortable among us... but at the same time, if you have not yet been
reconciled to God through Christ, "we
serve as ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were appealing
through us: we implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God!"
(2 Corinthians 5:20). |
